Volgens Rudolf Wolfensberger
Protests from all over the world
Voormalig hoofd van de afdeling Theater en Literatuur op het ministerie van OCW Rudolf Wolfensberger behandelde regelmatig subsidieaanvragen voor Mickery. Hij herinnert zich:
"On one occasion we were really dubious about whether to prolong his subsidy. The news got around, and I asked him why no one was protesting. He made a few telephone calls and within hours we were bombarded with protests from all over the world, starting with the Dutch ambassadors in various countries. It was especially impressive since Foreign Affairs mostly ignored culture. But there were also calls from important people you read about in the newspaper. What could we say except 'Wow!'? Our hesitation had gotten our minister into trouble."
