He was your Christopher Columbus
Regisseur Ellen Stuart was leider van theatergroup La Mama, die vaak in Mickery optrad:
"Honey, don't let anyone in Holland tell you that they knew what experimental theatre was before Ritsaert. In Holland in the 1960s there was nothing going on. Not only didn't they have a clue, but no one had heard of them either. We didn't even know that Holland and the Netherlands were the same place. All we knew about you was that even though you were straitlaced, homosexuality was not punishable and porno was sold on the newsstands. Then Ritsaert came along. Het put you on the map, my dear. After him you could talk about Holland everywhere in the world, and do you know what people said? Holland-Ritsaert ten Cate, Ritsaert ten Cate-Holland. As fars as I'm concerned you can name the country after him. He was your Christopher Columbus. Now everybody in the art world all over the planet knows about Holland. Now you can walk on the moon. Call it an allegory: Ritsaert ten Cate taught Holland to walk on the moon.
